I purchased my first home Oct. 2009. I am 46 yrs.old. I purchased it and the land in a land-home package through Clayton Homes. I bought a model unit and they delivered and set it up in about 2-3 weeks. I was given the key before the power was turned on one evening and never did a walk through with the manager. I have lived in my new house for 6 months now and I still do not have everything unpacked nor do I have anything on the walls as of yet.

They have had to replace wall boards due to bulging issues and now I have color issues and they said I would have to live with it or paint the walls . They have purchased a new kitchen faucet and I installed it. They installed french doors off the dining room and have had to adjust them 3-4 times already to make them fit properly. I have a lump in the carpet where the 2 halves of the house come together and I was told that is because the tape that holds the padding together will not stick. They have replaced my front door once and promised me to purchase an stick built house door because of the way too hard to close issues and the doors are warped. But today while talking with the manager he told me since I would not let them make the hole for the door bigger to install the stick build door he would not touch it. They send their repairmen out to perform repairs that are sub-standard and I am told that I am too picky. I requested that they replace all of the crown molding in the house because not one corner fits correctly and they said that is as good as it is going to get cause they cannot make it any better than what it is.

Their idea of fixing my wall board issue is to cut me a check for 700.00 to paint the walls myself. and their plan for the crown molding is to give me enough to cut and replace myself. I was sold a dream and given a nightmare. I am sorry I was told that my standards were too high to reach. I only want it to be right. Wall colors to be the same from one panel to the other, the 45 degree angles to meet and look smooth, the carpet to not have lumps in it. I don't think that is asking or expecting too much. If I had purchased a older home I would expect to have things that need fixing, but I didn't. That is the whole reason I purchased a brand new home. I did not want to go through this mess.

I plan to talk to attorney's to find out what I can do about it. I have talked to the store manager, the factory manager and the regional manger with no agreeable plan to solve these issues. I am planning to picket the store lot and my wife is in advertising, so as long as it is the truth I can print all I want about my experience with Clayton Homes.

Wow! Thanks for sharing your review.

It make me think twice, or more about Clayton Homes. Lord. I am sure you are hurt about investing your money in a so, called dream house, and end up with a nightmare. I am praying you win, and get the Justice you are seeking.

maybe I need to seek other Home plans. Trying to buy a home in three months. I'll think twice about Clayton Home.

Perhaps I 'll try Amish built homes. Good Luck and hoping you get the results you are seeking.

We bought a model home from Clayton homes also. When they moved it to us it was full of mold/mildew.

They "fixed" it. But our roof continues to leak. They have came out 4-5 times and said they cant find anything wrong. Meanwhile our walls need to be gutted and changed because it is ruined.

We have had two people come out and look at our roof, both have said that the entire thing needs to be replaced. Our carpet where the living room and kitchen meet is coming apart too. We have not even been here a whole year. Some of our doors dont close because they didnt drill the hole to allow it to shut. Its been a nightmare.

But since we cant get them to fix it the right way, my husband is getting the state inspector outhere to make a report. If we have to sue them to fix it we will.

to GUY-- maybe its not his fault he never got the walk through... I have lived in my clayton home for 6 weeks and am still waiting for my walk through.

I spoke to the "service manager" today who fed me *** about how he just wrote my name down this weekend because he knew he needed to come out for my walkthrough. Or maybe it was because I called the woman who sold me the house sunday night to let her know we almost had the house burn down because of a FAULTY Breaker Box!!

to Very Happy Clayton Buyer-- Im very glad for you that you had a wonderful experience but Im withe the rest of these folks...

Clayton Homes could have killed me, my husband, our 3 year old daughter, 1 year old son and 8 month old dog. I'm almost scared to go back inside the house.

I have a 98 Clayton dream double wide. I was shocked today when I found out there was no wrap behind the vynil siding and no tar paper under the shingles. This can't be right !!!

we ordered a brand new 2009 Rio Vista, which means we picked out the colors, floor plans etc...On Feb 26,2010 our 8 month old home burned down. Come to find out it was faulty wiring in the walls.

Ya and guess what we still havent gotten any results or even acknowledgement from Clayton Homes.

Manager of Clayton homes offered us some beds the next day the house burned down and guess what he called a couple weeks later and asked for them back..Our house was still under warranty!!!

It has gotten to the point that I am beyond mad...My brand new home burned down 1 week before my sons 4th birthday, we lost EVERYTHING...How can this company get away with what they do...If we want any results we have to come up with the $5000 to go to arbitration. So we are trying to save up

Maybe you should have done that walk through with the manager, I didnt read past that because you should have known better.

Clayton is being sued for repeated violations due to complaints to the better business bureau. As far as the people that have the half-hap homes.......Clayton has SOME dealerships that are decent and will work with you fix things etc.

BUT some are run by crooked people looking to make any money they can from you.

I am looking into clayton, however I am weary from all the complaints I have read here and on ripoffreport.com, so for now I will do my homework. Also so everyone knows that isn't aware: Oakwood homes is owned by clayton.

It sounds like you just had a really unfortunate experience. My husband and I bought our first home, a Clayton, last summer and couldn't be more thrilled! Like any home, new stick built, modular or manufactured there were a few issues, but our dealership has been very responsive to coming out to fix everything. When we weren't happy with a fix once they came back to re-fix it.

I will admit that I have champagne taste on a beer budget but feel like our house was the best of both worlds! Everyone that comes to our home compliments our gorgeous kitchen and great layout. We did buy a home with almost every upgrade available, with a block foundation for under $110,000.

I would encouage you to call the corp. office or Vanderbuilt Mortage!

Dont you just wish you werent looking for a CHEAP house and actually took the time to look into the guts of a house. Now that cheap house has cost you in time off work and now a lawyer.

I have folks all the time looking for a cheap house then gets pissed when the walls fall apart. I mean really if you cant tell once you walked into that model on the lot that it wasnt cheap?

next time buy something that cost a little more up front but it will sure save you alot in the long run

come on people quit looking for cheap stuff then complaing once something pops off
