Deposit not refunded. I appears that all complaints initially receive a templated response with legal buzz words and phrases. That is a red flag that a customer's best interest is not a consideration.

3 weeks ago I was informed by the Office that a refund would be sent to my PO box via certified mail. I waited 5 days it was not there.

I called and was told she had car trouble but it would be mailed that day. I waited 3 days.

Still no refund. I called and was told it...

My deal was canceled the day before site inspection, No reason given; my deposit would be refunded. I was informed in a text message by the GM that I was disrespectful and difficult to work with.

I have texts and voicemails that suggest different. He informed me by text it is his choice not to sell to me. I have not received my $1000 40 days after being called and asked for it. and 3 weeks since deal was cancelled I've been told that..

The check is in the mail..Uhm?.And when I asked for the tracking number after several trips to the post office..Uh, I was told I would get it text to me that never happened..And now they're not..Taking my calls to have caller ID and whoever answers the phone tells me that neither the general manager *** young or the office Lady Haley is available..I'm 75 years old, older than anybody in that office, and if there's any disrespect taking place, it's to me, the salesperson..Is young..Ah, sometimes forgetting or overlooking things, but always..Encouraging me to proceed. All I want is my $1000 back.

That's all I want..Any help that I can get to get that?.Would be..Appreciate it. It's the Sulphur Springs, TX Clayton home and the general manager is *** young..

Too many things to say! Would love to be able to attach photos!

Good example empty caulking tubes behind shower, joint compound globs under carpet, cabinets falling off the wall, both gable ends sheeting just scrapped in, shower connection in master bathroom wasnt tightened and leaked (unbeknownst to us and mold formed) and the list goes on. My wife and I were retired and thought this was a good idea for our golden years, HA that was a mistake! Never owned one of these before and SURELY NEVER WILL AGAIN! Model on Claytons lot was beautiful, of course lots of things look good on the surface!

But alas I could go on for hours!

We bought the shack in 2013 and have replaced all flooring, all cabinetry and all electrical outlets (as they pulled out of the walls)! Clayton has a S@&;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;t attitude for after the sales!

Fire hazard

I've had several complaints. You sold me a lemon. Wires were hooked up wrong and every pipe in the wall leaked black mold. In the first year! You were slick enough to say oh it's been a year if u have a fire hazard it's now your problem I still have the claim numbers but 50 dollars deductible for each claim. I had atleast 5. After the first year telling u sparks came out of plugs the actual plugs came out of the walls.

I went for a tour at one of their lots today. I knew within 15 minutes of being there that I would never buy one of their homes.

Cracks in the walls, doors that were not hinged correctly. Ceiling cracks that were cheaply fixed, Roof seperating from the walls. Fixtures that were falling apart, Glue and sealant that could be seen. Even the sales office smelled moldy!!

How is it that people are still buying these things from Clayton? I couldn't drive away from there fast enough!

Bad business dealings

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My husband and I met with Brett Milligan of Oakwood Homes in Fayetteville and made a deal this past Saturday. We talked it over and showed up first thing Monday morning with the required $1000 (Cash) to get things started. We did our loan application an were approved no problems, no downpayment required. Just received a call that there would be a $12,000 price increase to the deal we made and submitted for loan approval. Luckily our pre-approval is good for 4 months with Vanderbilt so we can find our home somewhere else. Now we have to wait on the check for the $1000 refund, which considering I paid cash yesterday seems a little ridiculous as well. A deal is a deal and this is such poor business.

Water line leaks due to the staples they use while building the home

We moved into our brand new home in April 2021. Have had roof leaks and a few other things. Now we have water lines that have been leaking and currently have fans and a dehumidifier going as Stanley Steamer was finally sent here to help with the moisture, mold and 4-6 inches of water under the house!

Terrible experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Put a deposit down on our home in May 2021 to get it started and was told it would be done in Oct 2021... It is Dec and we still have not seen it. Clayton sent "workers" to do our foundation and they did not know what they were doing. Failed first inspection and then they made the foundation THREE FEET too big... Had to be torn down and redone. They did a COLD POUR because they ran out of concrete pouring the footers!! Can't make this stuff up. We were told in October that we would be in our home before Christmas... It's Dec 2nd and they don't even know when it will leave the warehouse. DO NOT USE CLAYTON!!!! EVER.

we ordered a home with a gas fireplace and when we got the home it came with a natural gas fireplace and we live out in the country where there is no natural gas available so we bought a set of propane logs and installed them only to find out that they never hooked up the crossover gas line from one side of the home to the other and refuse to do so,

Questionable Ethics

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Original review Oct 12, 2021

The Good

The house is great with experts noting the quality of the pipes, supporting pillars, etc. Clayton provides a warranty for factory flaws, and their handymen are generally fantastic.

The Bad

Clayton's communication is not always timely nor professional, and their customer service has been curt almost to the point of rudeness.

Our experience suggests that a call service or online system would better serve Clayton's profits, PR, and customers.

Weeks after the warranty expired, parts in the kitchen began falling off, and a year later, an appliance failed, demonstrating the care Clayton puts into the replaceable parts of the house. Several neighbors acknowledged the poor quality, and one noted how Clayton cheaps out. Potential buyers might consider adding kitchen, bathroom, and lawn repairs to their budget sooner than later.

The Ugly

Despite the housing shortage, the neighboring Clayton house has been on the market for years, and one of their hirelings trespassed and damaged our property. Clayton noted the damage was done by just a [worker] we use and mentioned when he would be by.

We cleared our schedule, but he did not show, wasting our time. In the months since, Clayton has yet to give us the worker's contact information, making the situation pretty sketchy. Clayton noted their worker has misled them at least once before, so their hiring unethical workers they cannot trust surprises and confuses us.

Conclusion

Owning a Clayton home has been more problematic and expensive than expected.

Living next door to a Clayton owned home has been surprisingly unpleasant. Clayton's defensiveness, general misinformation, and obstruction, implies poor morals.

Ultimately, we want to be good neighbors, and we want any new neighbors to be fully aware of the folks they are dealing with when they purchase a Clayton home.

Know where your money is going

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Called Clayton homes, gave date that I wanted to be prepared to move in (6 months). I picked out home I was interested in, got pre-approved, i did the math and wanted to know where my money would be going.

I texted salesman to asked how they got total and his only response was to make an appointment, bring earnest money and proof of income. I called lender and she gave me itemized of the $14,500.00 difference, which included HVAC and moving and delivery. The home price included HVAC and set up and delivery so i questioned why this was being added to my financing and was told by Clayton salesman I was not being charged for these 2 cost given to me by lender but its against federal law to tell me what was including in the $14,500.00 added to my expense. At this point I felt uncomfortable to deal with this salesman and left.

I was very disappointed because I was prepared to make a purchase and I was insulted that a salesman would tell me he can add $14,500 to cost of mobile home but its illegal to tell me what I am being charged. I came to my own conclusion that things advertised as included are not included, but are in your financing.
