I bought my Home from Clayton Home four years ago. The house immediately started to fall apart and has continued to do so over the last four years.

It has been nothing but a money pit.

They refuse to help with any of the issues they only gave us a year warranty. I have had to replace so many things in this house not just cosmetic but big items I will never purchase a home from them again ever.

Horrific experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Our family recently lost our mother, and as the administrator of her trust, I used part of the inheritance to purchase a home for my sister through Clayton Homes in Evans, Colorado. As a real estate professional with over 20 years of experience and licensure in multiple states, I can say without hesitation that this was the most unprofessional and frustrating transaction I have ever encountered.

Our sales representative and project manager, Justin Markwardt, initially promised that permit applications would be submitted in December 2024.

In reality, they were not submitted until late February 2025. The home was to be placed on property in Adams County, which has a clear minimum square footage requirement. Justin failed to inform us that the home we selected and purchased was 60 square feet too small, which resulted in the permit being denied.

Throughout the process, Justin was frequently unavailableoften out of the office due to personal matters or on vacationand rarely responded to calls or emails. When I finally reached him to ask for his supervisors information, he either could not or would not provide it.

I eventually located Brent Barnard at another location, but his follow-up was equally poor.

The solution offered to us was to purchase a larger, more expensive home to meet the countys requirementsadding thousands of dollars to the cost. Even after this change, I had to repeatedly and proactively follow up to ensure Justin submitted the updated permit application. At every step, he shifted blame to Adams County rather than taking responsibility for delays or oversights.

When we first purchased, we were told the home would be completed by March 2025. This was a cash purchase, and every requested payment was made immediately.

Despite repeated assurances that the home would be ready for move-in, we are still waiting for the final Certificate of Occupancy.

The level of disorganization, lack of accountability, and disregard for customer service at this location is staggering. If you are considering working with Clayton Homes in Evans, Coloradoproceed with extreme caution or, better yet, avoid them entirely.

Poor quality and poor design

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

HVAC is poorly located in home not allowing enough volume of air to reach opposite end of home. Not energy efficient if must use auxiliary heat/cool for end of home.

After warranty, homeowner must rebuild drawers, cabinets, replace locksets, pull windows to reseal, replace exterior window trims and seal. No assistance from Clayton after warranty period.

Put a deposit down on what I believe was a fake mobile home

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

May 17th, 2025, with a deposit on a mobile home, they said it had been repossessed. Every other day or every other week, I would call for no information.

We don't have it yet. Then, when I asked for the serial number, that's when I figured something was really wrong. First, she said she would send it; no, she didn't.

Anyway, we are asking for a deposit back because she said, 'Well, the only thing we can do is offer you another mobile home,' a selling tactic to get you to buy a newer mobile home for more money. This company should be ashamed of itself for treating people so badly.

House needs repairs

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Doors, jams walls are awful. When I say anything I am told its only mobile home .

I cant believe you send out a product like and be satisfied with a home that has curved walls, paint you can see through and jams that have nails sticking out to cut yourself on. Globs of caulking on the holes in the jambs stick out like a sore thumb. Shower drain under the house broken and they said they dont have the part. The three things my husband was excited about was the lentils, which we did not get, black faucets we ordered: told you dont carry them after we received the home and the large shower which doesnt work.

Why cant the part be overnighted. I want a rep from your company to come visit my home and tell me they are satisfied with your work. If he or she takes pride in your product they should fix these issues in the production department. No one should have a new home that looks like this.

Evenall the people who have seen inside the home cant believe it. The seal people are not friends or family but workman who work around here. Believe me they will spread the word around the community not to purchase any of these homes. I have been in real estate for over 30 years and have never seen anything like this before.

I am very sorry I purchased this Pinnacle. Please call me so we can schedule an appointment for your warranty inspector to see this work.

Thanks Faith 706-525-****

My husband and I has had a horrible experience with Clayton homes in Desoto Tx 75119. We are currently going through the homeowners process and everyone there is failing to communicate.

We made a down payment of 10,500 on our new home and at this point we want a refund. We have not closed on anything at the moment but just lack of communication from our Agent Deanna Burt, financial assistant Rita Flores, as well as the GM Lenny Wheeler at this location. They all had no problem taking our money and pretending to care in the beginning! They are very unprofessional.

We have submitted the same documents over and over. We ask for an update and they always say let me check and get back with you nothing happens. I have emailed and messaged the GM but still havent received a response! This place sucks!

And I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS LOCATION TO ANYONE!!! We almost feel scammed.

Warn other buyers

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I thought I was buying a Marlette Rothrock model home. I told the dealer from the beginning that I wanted nothing to do with Clayton due to the quality that I saw in southern built homes.

The dealer never told me that Clayton bought Marlette until I was in deep enough, and late enough in the season to back out. So I took a chance, WHAT A MAJOR MISTAKE. I'm in northern Maine so timing is critical to get a home set in the fall. After countless phone calls voicing my concerns about the timing, and constant assurances from the dealer that the home would be set before frost.

Well it was a month late so it was set on a concrete slab surrounded by frozen ground at lease 2 feet deep. The home delivered was not what I ordered, the floor plan is not the 1 I ordered from, the layout was backwards for the center of the home putting things like drain lines, water spigots, door location, all in the wrong place and wrong side of house. There were no windows (ZERO) in the front wall of the house, this was due to the failure to flip the center of the house. It has a utility room (not on the floor plan I used to order from), this ate up the floor space for the dining area.

This was a custom order mostly due to lot layout requiring a front to back layout flip, did not happen, I very clearly (several times) stated that there would not be a tub in my home, just a 60" walk in shower, I got a tub, I specified 2 comfort height toilets, I got 2 low profiles, I specified 2 36x80 entrance doors with 2 top lites on front and 1 to 4 large lites in back, I got a 36" no lite front and a 32" 9 lite back, I asked that the breaker panel be placed in the kitchen, bedroom or hallway, I got it in the utility room taking up valuable wall space, I asked for 2 cable tv drops 1 in the master and 1 in the living room in the wall separating the LR from the 2nd bedroom, I got 1 on the outside front wall in the LR, I was very specific that I did not want an island or peninsula in the kitchen and the sink on an outside wall, I got a large island/peninsula with a sink in the middle of the room. I gave options to the dealer to forward to Clayton, make this home layout and finishes right, refund 15 to 20 K so I could get it done or build what I ordered and pay a moving company to move me from this to the new one. What I got was 1 window in the front wall, and it is not the size I discussed.

The quality is junk, I will say though that it is very energy efficient (so far). 1 example of Claytons "quality" finish work, every run of crown moulding has at lease 1 joint in the run, these are butt joints, they couldn't even bother to mitre them let alone calk the joint to try and hide them, most of the glued on tile in the kitchen has fallen off, they tried to glue to a vinyl surface, this did not work.

Now this is a very small home, 14x48, except for the long back wall (which is supposed to be the front) the rest of the moulding could (and should) have been put up in 1 single piece.

I guess Clayton uses roofer and framers for finish work. I also specified where I wanted the water and sewer drops to penetrate the bellyboard, they missed on both (another from to back thing)

So if you made it this far, my advise is to avoid the hacks at all cost, shop around and pay attention to detail (or lack of).

Before moving into a home in 2021, I had to call the state department to come and assist in correcting problems with uneven ceilings and also raised shingles that we were unaware of. The drawer corners are not secured, with only one corner stapled.

The film covering the cabinets is thin and tears easily! The can lights at the fireplace are uneven.

Home delivered w/o notice. Dont accept keys till satisfied.

Clayton 1 Waco Most Unprofessional Workplace EVER!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

If your home was built at Waco 1 and is a piece of crap it is because there is ZERO professionalism in this place! They blare gangster rap and tejano music through the building all day.

People too busy focusing on dancing rather than building a home. Females twerking with nails guns, doing tik tok dances in your future home! Females allowed to wear spandex and booty shorts to work so of course the men are distracted! Loud obnoxious women are promoted while hard working men are overlooked for the sake of inclusion.

People everywhere but in their own department.

If a hardworker is caught on the phone imediately fired while the slackers walk around taking selfies all day> its insane! The company focuses more on fun than hard work and you cant do that when you are building a home!!eer
